Who is a candidate?
Liposuction to the abdomen is a very common procedure requested by males to improve the contour of their abdomen. Many men are good candidates for liposuction to the abdomen vs. an abdominoplasty procedure because many men do not demonstrate abdominal wall laxity or excess skin. If a man has experienced a significant weight loss, then he may be a better candidate for a body lift procedure. Many men also experience fullness to the breast or chest area and will elect to combine liposuction to the chest at the same time as liposuction to the abdomen.
- If you have excess subcutaneous fat which is resistant to diet and exercise
- If you wish to change the contours of your body.
- If you desire permanent improvement in contour abnormalities caused by excess fat.
-
The use of Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (UAL) allows safer removal of larger amounts of fat than with standard liposuction. This increase in safety is due to the reduced amount of blood removed with UAL. This means that UAL can be very useful to moderately overweight individuals even though UAL is not a weight loss reduction treatment.
Anticipated Results:
- A permanent improvement in the contour and proportion of the treated areas.
-
A more flattering figure or physique, in or out of clothing.
The incision is approximately 1.5-2.5 cm in length and is placed in well concealed areas. For the abdomen, the incision is placed in the inside part of the belly button and to the lower portion of the pubic area. For liposuction of the chest, the incision is placed to the chest or breast crease.
Liposuction to the Abdomen: For Men
This year, more than two million Americans will have plastic surgery, and approximately 30% will be men. This number is increasing as it becomes more "socially acceptable" for men to want improvements such as an improved waist line. Dr. Short offers her expertise in making recommendations for males, which will vary from female patients. Dr. Short will consider the male anatomy to offer a refreshed, natural improvement with keeping the male physique and anatomy in mind.

The female patients below had liposuction to the abdomen. The patient's expectations and absence of skin looseness and significant stretch marks allowed them to proceed with liposuction only. The patients wanted an improved waistline and reduction to the localized fatty tissue to the midsection. Liposuction of the abdomen was an appropriate treatment choice for these patients.
The patients pictured below are before and 6 weeks after surgery.
