Welcome

Planning the Surgery:

Time off Work:

You will want to take at 3 weeks off from work.

Caretaker:

You must have a caretaker for the first 24-48 hours after surgery.  You will be unable to drive for the first week after surgery.

The Day of Surgery:

The procedure is typically performed as an outpatient general anesthesia.
The incisions are placed in the most inconspicuous location (groin area and natural body creases), but some scarring will always be visible.  The scars tend to fade in 6 -12 months depending upon your skin type. The procedure typically takes 3-4 hours.

After Surgery:

Thighlifts are an uncomfortable procedure due to the location of the incision.  Patients can stay overnight at the surgery center and may opt to stay 1-2 days in a nearby hotel.  The incisions are repaired in several layers to decrease tension. You are placed in a compression garment at the end of the procedure to assist in the natural shrinking and tightening of the skin and to help with swelling.  This garment is typically worn for six weeks following the procedure.

Initial discomfort is typically controlled with prescription pain medication.  Bruising and swelling usually subside within a month.  The final result typically takes about six months. Due to the location of the incisions, there is a high risk of separation to the incision.

Light activity is possible within 7 - 10 days and will become more comfortable over 2 -3 weeks post operatively.  You should refrain from heavy lifting (anything greater than 10 pounds) for the first three weeks and any type of vigorous (aerobic) activities for at least six weeks.

Note:

It is important to address any concerns with Dr. Short at the time of your consultation.  There is some risk, as with any surgical procedure.  Minor complications that do not affect the final outcome occur occasionally.  Major complications are unusual.  Dr. Short can explain the procedure and potential complications to you in detail, and she can assist you in determining if a thigh lift is right for you.
