Welcome

Planning the Surgery:

Time off Work:

You should plan to be off work for 5-7 days for a "desk" job.  If you do heavy lifting or have a lot of physical involvement with your job you may want to take 7-14 days off.

Caregiver:

You will need a caregiver for the first 24-48 hours postoperatively.  If you do not have someone to care for you, a nurse can be provided for a minimal fee.

The Day of Surgery:

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under sedation or general anesthesia.  Typically, the procedure takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete.

After Surgery:

You will go home with only light dressings over the incision sites and a surgical bra will be worn for two weeks to provide adequate support. You may shower after 72 hours.  Skin glue adhesive is applied to the incisions.  Scar treatment options are available at your two week appointment.  The scars will fade over time.  The surgery does not eliminate the ability to breastfeed.  Light activities can be resumed after 7-10 days and aerobic activity may be resumed at 6 weeks after surgery.

Note:

It is important to address any concerns with Dr. Short at the time of your consultation. There is some risk, as with any surgical procedure. Minor complications that do not affect the final outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are unusual. Dr. Short can explain the procedure and potential complications to you in detail, and she can assist you in determining if a breast lift is right for you
