When should I consider a chin enlargement?
- A receding chin or one which is too small in comparison with the other facial features.
Anticipated Results:
- An improved profile.
- A more attractive jaw line which creates a better balance between the chin and the other facial features.
Typically, an incision is made either inside the mouth near the gum line or underneath the chin. A small pocket is created in the tissue and an implant is inserted. The implant is primarily made from silicone. Chin implants are available in a variety of different dimensions and an implant will be carefully selected for your anatomy and needed projection. With some patients, the chin may be augmented via fat grafting also. With fat grafting, fat is removed typically from the abdomen and is injected into the chin to provide projection.
Chin Augmentation Examples:
Patient 1 had a chin augmentation and liposuction of the neck. The improvement with the increased projection to chin to enhance facial harmony is noted. Before the chin augmentation, the patient's lips are more projected than her chin and after surgery, this is corrected. The patient pictured below is before and 7 weeks after surgery.

Patient 2 and Patient 3 have had chin augmentations to increase the projection of the chin by using a silicone chin implant. It is also very common to combine a chin augmentation procedure with a neck contouring procedure such as liposuction to the neck or a submental necklift. Also, note by using a combined chin implant and neck contouring procedure, the neckline and neck contour has significantly improved. These patients below are pictured before and 6 weeks after surgery.
