Time off Work:
The time off work will vary dependent on the facial areas injected and the amount of fat injected. The upper portion and mid portions of the face typically take 5-7 days for swelling to resolve. The eyelid area, nasolabial folds, and perioral area may take closer to 1 week. The lip area swells significantly, especially for the first 2-3 weeks the lips will be much larger than desired.
Caregiver:
Someone will need to be with you for the first 24 hours after the procedure.
Day of Surgery:
The procedure can be performed under sedation or general anesthesia. It is done on an outpatient basis. The procedure typically take approximatley 1.5-2 hours.
After Surgery:
Any initial discomfort can be easily controlled with medications. Swelling and bruising will appear and will resolve within the first few weeks. The amount of swelling will be dependant of the amount of fat injected into the face.
Note:
It is important to address any concerns with Dr. Short at the time of your consultation. There is some risk, as with any surgical procedure. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are unusual. Dr. Short can explain the procedure and potential complications to you in detail, and she can assist you in determining if fat injections are right for you.
