A breast augmentation with lift is a combined procedure that incorporates the benefits of two transformational surgeries. It is also known as a breast lift with implants because the patient will experience both the uplifting attributes of a breast lift procedure, as well as the enhancement in size and shape that comes with breast implants. A breast lift and a breast augmentation both improve the aesthetics of the chest, but they do so in distinctly different ways. By combining these procedures into a package of procedures, the costs in time and recovery can be reduced, while the benefits to the appearance of the breasts are effectively doubled.

Before and After Photos
Augmentation-mastopexy is the proper, medical name for the procedure that integrates our breast augmentation and breast lift surgeries. When a woman gets older, or if she has experienced massive weight loss or childbirth, there may be more aesthetic issues than just one simple surgery can correct.
Ptosis of the breasts describes the various degrees of drooping and hanging that can occur at the chest. When ptosis is severe enough, neither breast implants nor a breast lift alone may be enough to restore shape, volume and a perky orientation to the breasts. But a breast augmentation with lift can correct multiple concerns through a staged series of surgeries.
Can You Do a Breast Lift and Breast Implants Together?
It is completely safe and often advantageous to perform a breast lift and a breast augmentation procedure within a short time of each other. Although the staged surgery is slightly more complex than performing either procedure on its own, the level of risk is essentially the same. What’s more, Dr. Short often prefers to undergo the staged surgeries in sequence for the best healing and least compromise on blood supply. Patients also tend to be more pleased with the results of the combined procedure because the aesthetic improvements are far more dramatic.
You can have it all at the Gillian Institute. We craft a completely customized course of treatment for each of our patients. Combined Benefits for Comprehensive Results
Combining the benefits of two breast enhancement procedures can address the complex issues that are often brought about by age and other life circumstances. In fact, there are some situations that can only be improved by the benefits of a breast lift and implants together. In the worst cases of ptosis, for instance, the breasts don’t simply droop—they can experience a high amount of volume loss, as well.
A breast lift can correct the most severe sagging, but it will not restore their pleasant, plump fullness. Breast augmentation, on the other hand, will return volume to depleted breast tissue. But, without the support of a breast lift, ptosis can be intensified under the increased weight of the implants.
A breast augmentation with lift provides comprehensive improvement by bringing the breasts into an appealingly perky position while also endowing them with a fetching fullness, thanks to the silicone implants.
Ideal candidates for the breast lift with implants procedure are afflicted by extreme ptosis. The worst cases of ptosis include severe sagging of the breasts and also a considerable loss of volume. Neither a breast lift nor a breast augmentation procedure are sufficient for improving these circumstances unless they are combined into a combined sequence of surgeries.
Candidates for a breast augmentation with lift must be healthy enough to be cleared for multiple operations. They must have realistic expectations for the outcomes of the procedure and have been properly prepared with individualized aftercare instructions for their recovery.

Breast augmentation and breast lift are conveniently combined because both procedures will require a similar set of incisions. Dr. Short and her surgical team will use these incisions to lift and remove sagging, excess breast tissue. These same incisions will also grant access to the breast pocket for the secure placement of the breast implants. In many cases, Dr. Short likes to stage the mastopexy and breast augmentation for the best healing and least compromise on blood supply. Dr. Short and her team will select the incision pattern most appropriate for you.
Breast Enhancement Incision Patterns
- Circumareolar, also known a the “donut incision”
- Circumvertical, also known as the “lollipop incision”
- Anchor, the most involved incision pattern
Recovery & Results
One advantage of the combined procedure is that it offers a shorter total time spent in recovery. We ask that you keep all of your follow-up appointments so that we can carefully monitor your recovery and ensure you’ll enjoy the best possible results. The first of these appointments normally takes place two to three days after surgery. After a couple of months, the bruising and swelling should have subsided enough for you to engage in more strenuous activities once more.
Bear in mind that every patient is different, so recovery times may vary depending on the individual’s unique set of circumstances. Please follow your personalized aftercare instructions with fidelity to minimize difficulties and maximize outcomes.
Can I Have Sex After Breast Surgery?
In the early days of your recovery, we strongly advise against any vigorous activities that may strain your sutures and set your heart racing—this includes sexual intercourse. It is also important to be mindful of the fact that your breasts will be sensitive to the touch for up to three weeks after surgery. If the mood should strike you after your first week of recovery, we advise great care. You should wear your compression bra if you choose to have sex before you’ve fully healed.

While a combined breast augmentation and breast lift surgery is more involved than either of its component procedures, it is still an outpatient operation that will not require an overnight hospital stay. The procedure is typically done under general anesthesia and takes about three hours to complete. Your surgeon should describe your options and explain the procedure in detail.
A breast augmentation with lift is a combined procedure that is ideal for women who are suffering the most extreme cases of ptosis of the chest. “Ptosis” is a medical term that describes any sort of sagging. In the worst instances of ptosis of the breasts, the chest sags severely but also experiences a loss in overall volume. An augmentation with lift presents a remedy for these dual afflictions by both lifting the breast tissue higher on the frame and also restoring youthful fullness with the addition of breast implants.
