About Breast Size
For many of us, the size of our breasts plays an important role in our sense of attractiveness and femininity. Whether fortunately or unfortunately, our breasts are shaped predominantly through genetics. So, we really don’t get a say in the matter. While diet and exercise can enhance or define other features of our physique, our breasts often are what they are. That means many, if not most, aren’t happy with what Mother Nature gave them. In fact, a reported 70% of women say they are unhappy with the size and shape of their breasts. So, if you are unsatisfied with the volume, shape, or size of your breasts, you are not alone.
About Breast Augmentation
When you think about plastic surgery, you might subconsciously associate it with breast augmentations – colloquially coined as “the boob job.” After all, it has remained one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures for the past few decades! We all know a friend or can name a celebrity who volumized their appearance with breast implants. In 2019, there were almost 300,000 breast augmentations in the United States, crowning it as one of the top 5 surgical procedures. But what exactly goes into a breast augmentation? How much customization is there? Using the safest and most advanced implants on the market, The Gillian Institute offers multiple variations in size, profile, shape, composition, and texture.
Size & Profile
If you are considering breast augmentation, typically size and profile are top priorities. With our collection of implants, you can choose to increase cup size and build-out projection to make a subtle or significant change in your appearance. During your consultation, we factor in your chest diameter and mammary profile to determine which size and fullness tailor best to your ideal aesthetic.
Breast implants are made of either saline or silicone. While 84% of breast augmentations in 2020 used silicone implants, saline is a popular choice because the saline flows naturally in the shell, retaining the breasts’ natural bounce. Once the saline implants are inserted, they are filled with a sterile saline solution until they reach your specifications. Silicone implants, on the other hand, come intact. Patients choose these to mimic the feel and look of firmer breast tissue while also wanting to create more noticeable cleavage.
There are four options when deciding on breast implant placement. Depending on how much breast tissue you have naturally, our surgeons will decide which one best achieves your desired results. Placement options include under the muscle, under the fascia of the breast, partially under the muscle, or right above the muscle. These different placements affect the level of projection in the breasts and determine your cleavage’s fullness.
Implants come in either round or anatomical shapes. Anatomical implants mimic the tear-drop look of natural breasts while round implants create a fuller appearance with less volume. With their slight slope, anatomical implants create fullness at the bottom of the breasts.
Designer Nipples: #freethenipple
Over the years, the aesthetics industry has often overlooked the nipple-areola complex – an integral part of breast enhancement. Having nipples that project through your shirt has once again become a popular fashion trend. The trend has been deemed as “designer nipples” and comes with its own social media movement: #freethenipple. But, even after breast augmentation, many women can’t achieve this look. Whether caused by genetics or breast reconstruction surgery, nipples can be inverted, unnoticeable, or completely absent on one or both breasts. Traditional procedures to enhance the look and feel of nipples include local flap reconstruction and tattooing. However, both of these don’t enhance the nipples’ projection. They merely add color to the nipple areas. So, how do we enhance the projection of the nipple?
About Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is the active molecule in many popular dermal fillers like Juvéderm and Restylane. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring compound in our skin that retains water to keep dermal structures healthy and hydrated. What makes hyaluronic acid fillers optimal for nipple enhancement is their volumizing viscosity. The hyaluronic acid in fillers is specially formulated to be thicker and more durable than the kind naturally produced by our bodies. When injected into the nipple, the filler instantly builds out a firm, natural-looking protruding nipple. Because hyaluronic acid is organic to the body, it safely absorbs over the next several months, allowing you to fine-tune and touch-up the perfect nips!
If you are interested in adding nipple enhancement to your breast augmentation, the first step is to schedule a personal consultation at one of our two Indianapolis offices. Here, we’ll begin your breast augmentation process and show you what type of results you can expect. Next, we will determine if you are healthy enough for general surgery. This includes being able to quit smoking and having no preexisting conditions that conflict with anesthesia. Also, we recommend being at a healthy, stable weight at the time of your breast augmentation. If your weight fluctuates drastically after your augmentation, your results will be altered.
If this is your first time with us, we will begin with a new patient intake interview and a physical examination. Then, we’ll listen to your desired results. Many patients come in with more than one cosmetic concern, so we will listen to all of your worries and begin constructing a personalized treatment plan. We’ll have you “try on” different tester implants to see which one(s) fit your ideal breast profile. Finally, we will explain how nipple enhancement works and decide if it should be added to your treatment plan. Because it is a simple injection, nipple enhancement can be seamlessly tagged onto the end of a breast augmentation surgery.
Before your breast augmentation, you will need to follow this general list of guidelines for an optimal procedure. We will include more personalized steps in your unique treatment plan.
- Avoid nicotine. Nicotine constricts your blood vessels and interrupts your body’s natural healing process.
- Avoid blood-thinning medications. These will cause excessive bleeding during your procedure.
- Plan a ride home. You will not be fit to drive yourself afterward.
- Schedule a couple of days off from work. You will need to spend at least a week focusing solely on rest and recovery.
A Combined Approach
Breast augmentation is usually one of the concerns that affects mothers or older women. In addition, these patients often have loose skin, unwanted fat, underdefined curves, and separated core muscles. To correct all of these problems and more in one comprehensive procedure, we perform a mommy makeover. A full mommy makeover includes breast augmentation, breast lift, a tummy tuck, liposuction, and a Brazilian butt lift. The obvious advantage of this approach is that only one recovery phase is necessary. So you can get back to your daily routine quicker, looking rejuvenated from head to toe.
