CoolSculpting Elite is a non-surgical, non-invasive body contouring procedure that removes excess body fat. Like the original CoolSculpting technology, it does this by freezing and destroying fat cells in a process known as cryolipolysis. However, it features several improvements that make it even more efficient! Sometimes, to our frustration, stubborn pockets of fat remain on our bodies in spite of a healthy diet and regular exercise. CoolSculpting Elite provides patients with a safe and effective way to deal with these hurdles and bring them one step closer to the body they want.

Dr. Kimberly Short is a nationally renowned, board-certified plastic surgeon and provides her patients with the safest and most innovative techniques in aesthetic medicine. Dr. Short has already helped countless patients improve the way they look and feel better about themselves and she can help you too.

About CoolSculpting® Elite

CoolSculpting has been a trending body contouring treatment since it received FDA approval in 2009.(1) Introduced in 2021, CoolSculpting Elite represents the latest advancement in CoolSculpting technology – offering faster results with fewer treatment sessions and a more comfortable procedure. CoolSculpting Elite features applicators with a redesigned shape that are more comfortable and more effective. In contrast to the previous U-shaped applicators, the new C-shaped contours make better contact with the tissue, can cool a wider area, and don’t cause uncomfortable pinching from the tissue folding over itself during the procedure. With two applicators on the machine, CoolSculpting Elite also allows two areas to be treated at the same time, significantly reducing treatment duration by reducing the total number of sessions.

Benefits

In contrast to invasive, surgical body-fat reduction procedures such as liposuction, CoolSculpting Elite provides a convenient procedure with significantly less downtime. No incisions or anesthesia are required, and there is no risk of infection. Also, liposuction complications include contour irregularities and a disproportionate or unnatural appearance.

How Does CoolSculpting Elite Work?

CoolSculpting Elite eliminates fat cells in a process called cryolipolysis. Fat cells are more susceptible to the effects of cold than other types of human tissue cells. By cooling the targeted area of the body to between 20o and 30o Fahrenheit, the fat cells are frozen and destroyed while the surrounding tissue is unharmed – since those cells require a colder temperature to freeze.(2) From there, the dead fat cells are naturally removed from the body by your lymphatic system.

Candidates

CoolSculpting Elite is ideal for patients who have a healthy lifestyle and are within thirty pounds of their ideal weight. It is not intended for removing high volumes of fat in one session the same way liposuction is.(2) CoolSculpting Elite treatment should not be performed on areas of the body that are injured, cut, infected, or have severe varicose veins. Certain skin, nerve, and immune disorders as well as abnormal cold sensitivity may affect your eligibility for CoolSculpting Elite. Dr. Short will be able to determine if you are a suitable candidate for CoolSculpting Elite during your personal consultation.

Treatment Areas

CoolSculpting Elite is currently FDA-approved for treatment on the following parts of the body:

  • Abdomen
  • Upper Back
  • Lower Back
  • Hip/Flank (Love-Handles)
  • Upper Arms
  • Inner Thighs
  • Outer Thighs
  • Banana Roll

Personal Consultation

All of Dr. Short’s patients are brought in for a personal consultation to assess their health history and treatment goals. Our highly qualified staff members get to know each patient on a personal level before treatment in order to build trust and rapport and ensure the patient has all the information they need before moving forward with CoolSculpting. You’ll meet with a staff member who has completed CoolSculpting University and will make an expert assessment to ensure that you are a qualified candidate for CoolSculpting Elite. After this evaluation to determine if CoolSculpting Elite is right for you and a discussion about what you’d like to achieve with the procedure, they will recommend a treatment plan that is conducive to your goals.

Preparation & Procedure

Within the five days leading up to the procedure, avoid the consumption of alcohol and blood-thinning agents such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Vitamin E, and other certain herbal supplements, since blood-thinning medications and supplements will result in increased bruising. The area of treatment will be marked and a gel pad will be applied to protect the skin. Next, the applicators are secured to the areas of treatment, the bulges of fat are vacuumed into the applicator, and cooling energy is emitted to freeze the fat. As the session begins, you will feel a tugging sensation and may briefly notice some tingling. However, these will diminish or go away entirely after 10 minutes as the area becomes numb from the cold. One session of CoolSculpting Elite can last up to an hour and you will be awake, so you may want to bring a book or device to keep yourself entertained.

Recovery & Results

CoolSculpting Elite treatment has practically no side effects, and there’s no downtime required after a session. Most people return to their normal daily activities immediately. Some people experience temporary pain or numbness on the application site.(2) Results can be noticed a few weeks after treatment. However, the full effectiveness of CoolSculpting Elite treatment requires a few months to be visible since it takes time for the body to remove all the dead fat cells. Results will vary from one individual to another, however, most patients experience a noticable reduction in fat a few months after treatment. The results of CoolSculpting Elite are permanent. The fat cells destroyed from the CoolSculpting Elite treatment will be permanently removed, however, the remaining fat cells can still increase in size – so it is important to remain healthy and active to prevent future weight gain.

A multicenter study on over 518 patients undergoing cryolipolysis treatment reported the following results:

  • No serious side effects or adverse complications
  • 23% reduction in fat thickness after 3 months
  • 73% patient satisfaction
  • 82% of participants willing to recommend the procedure to a friend
  • 89% of patients reporting a positive perception of the treatment duration
  • 96% reporting discomfort levels of minimal to tolerable.(3)
