The Gillian Institute’s body contouring and reshaping philosophy are based on maintaining the feminine contours of the body. Our surgeons can achieve natural, feminine contours of the buttock, referred to as the “Brazilian Buttock” by re-creating the optimal silhouette. We can perform a more traditional buttock lift procedure to remove excess skin of the buttock and hip area while repositioning the tissue underneath the buttocks to create a more shapely, lifted buttock area, and also perform buttock sculpting by performing buttock augmentation and reshaping by using fat grafting to the buttocks. During an initial consultation, Dr. Short will be able to recommend the best buttock enhancing procedure based on the patient’s needs and aesthetic goals. Dr. Kimberly Short is one of the pioneering physicians of the Brazilian Butt Lift. Her experience is unparalleled, and her expertise is expansive. Surgeons can harvest fat by performing liposuction to areas on the body and transferring the fat to the buttocks to give a more lifted and more shapely appearance. Fat grafting to the buttocks will decrease fullness to the waistline and place emphasis on a narrow waist and increased curves and rounded shape to the buttocks. Fat grafting can also address mild skin laxity and sagging by restoring volume to the buttock region for improved shape with a tighter skin envelope. The Gillian Institute can also perform a variety of both approaches and techniques if needed for optimal buttock contouring.
Individuals who desire a fuller butt and curvier figure, and have ample fatty deposits in other areas of the body, are ideally suited for the Brazilian Butt Lift. Traditional butt lift techniques are great for addressing sagging of the buttocks. Injectable butt lifts are good options for those who want a fuller figure but don’t have enough extra fat tissue. It’s also recommended that patients considering a buttock augmentation or lift of any kind be in a place in life where they can stay off their buttocks and not sit during the initial stages of their recovery. Patients with diabetes also may not be good candidates as fat grafts have a lower chance of success in diabetics. Feeling like you could use a little extra size and lift of your backside? The Brazilian Butt Lift is the procedure for you. On the other hand, if you’re concern is excessive sagging skin or too much size on the backside, you may be better served with a traditional butt lift or buttock sculpting.

Both the Brazilian Butt Lift and modern buttock sculpting techniques are ideal for fulfilling a number of aesthetic goals and are often yield much better, natural results compared to traditional buttock implants.
Combination techniques that employ a butt lift and fat graft are available as well. The Butt Lift with fat graft can address sagging and excessive skin. Combined with fat transfer, the procedure results in a raised, youthful appearance and improved shape.
Depending on the needs of the patient, Dr. Short may recommend a butt lift, butt augmentation, or a combination of both to provide the desired results. Commonly, she performs both the augmentation and lift together for a comprehensive buttock enhancing surgery. The traditional procedure that Dr. Short performs is detailed below.
For a more traditional approach to a buttock lift procedure, the incision is located in the lower back region which is easily concealed with clothes or a swimsuit. This is a more common approach for weight loss patients, who have lost 100 lbs or more and are experiencing a high degree of excess skin laxity, stretch marks, and overhanging, loose skin. This approach will tighten the waistline and address excess skin and stretch marks to the lower back and buttock crease area. The lower back and buttock skin, as well as the tissues, are tightened, resulting in a more toned and tight appearance. The tissue is re-positioned in the buttock region to improved shape and create a long-lasting lifted appearance.
No amount of exercise or weight lifting program will result in an improved appearance of the buttock skin redundancy, but typically weight loss will procedure more excess skin. For previous tummy tuck patients, this incision would be extended along the lower back to perform a buttock lift. At the Gillian Institute, we take great care to deliver the best results and as part of that, use a specialized suture technique where the top layer of skin is folded inward. This method results in a well-hidden scar and more natural results.
The recovery period is two weeks. Positioning after surgery recommends maintaining a straight, non-flexed position to the lower back or hyperextension of the lower back to reduce tension to the incision. The patient is required to limit lifting to less than 10 lbs for the first two weeks, and no twisting, turning or bending for the first 2-3 weeks post operative. When patients return to desk jobs or computer jobs, a good posture must be maintained to ensure adequate healing of the incision. We will place a drain(s) to the buttock region for the first one week and will be removed in the office. Topifoam compression pads are placed under the compression garment for the first one week, and the compression garment is required for six weeks.
2 weeks for recovery period with lifting and positioning restrictions for the first 2-3 weeks post operative.
You must have a caretaker for the first 48-72 hours after surgery. You must have a driver for the first 1-2 weeks post operative.
The procedure is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. The procedure typically takes 3.5 to 5 hours.
Light dressings are placed with skin glue adhesive and steri-strips to the incision for the first two weeks. A scar treatment will be recommended after two weeks. The Topifoam compression pads are placed for one week under the compression garment.
The Topifoam compression pads add additional padding under the garment to alleviate swelling sooner, decrease bruising, and aid in molding the skin for appropriate skin contraction the compression garment is required for six weeks post operative to reduce swelling.
Post-operative external ultrasound massage will begin one to two weeks following surgery to reduce any areas of firmness and swelling, encourage the lymphatic system, and promote skin contraction. The post-operative massage is performed in the office by a licensed aesthetician or nurse.
