Your lips may be moving, but your eyes are doing all the talking. But what if your eyes are saying something different than what you would like them to? Wrinkled, sagging forehead skin or asymmetry at the browline can contort your whole appearance and distort your intended message. To the outside world, you may appear drowsy, grumpy, sad, distracted or angry. Even if you don’t feel upset, these miscommunications may cue unintended responses from those around you. A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure to tighten the skin at your forehead. It will lift the orientation of your character upwards so that you appear more youthful, energetic and content.  Dr. Kimberly Short is Medical Director at the Gillian Institute for Plastic, Aesthetic and Laser Surgery in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is an expert in cosmetic facial procedures. With just a simple surgery she can elevate your entire demeanor. Enquire with us to learn more. How Do I Know If I Need a Brow Lift?

The art of balance is a very important concept in aesthetic surgery. Dr. Short is often called upon to fix symmetry. In the case of the forehead, there may be an asymmetry amid the eyebrows. Since they are so involved in the expression of emotions, the aesthetic tension that a pair of errant eyebrows can create is more than skin deep. Your eyes may mistakenly transmit the wrong intention to the people in your life.

Sagging skin around the eyes can add years to your appearance. They may make you look drowsy, angry or sad. If you would like to appear as youthful and alert as you feel inside, consider a brow lift.

Your Personal Consultation With Dr. Short

Dr. Short is a leader in her field. She practiced facial surgery in Great Britain at Moorfields Eye Hospital where she refined her skills in aesthetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery. During her training, she was given an opportunity to work with Dr. Oscar Ramirez, who pioneered endoscopic plastic surgery, a technique that is widely used today. Patients trust Dr. Short because she practices what she preaches. She had her own endoscopic brow lift procedure performed by Dr. Ramirez.

Procedure

Dr. Short performs a brow lift on an outpatient basis. Patients are placed under general anesthesia. The procedure takes approximately three hours. A brow lift raises the forehead, eyebrows and the skin around the eyes to give a more rested and renewed appearance. The procedure removes facial wrinkles and frown lines between the eyebrows. It also improves the heavy or tired look that some people acquire when they age.

Dr. Short conceals her incisions within the hairline (hairline incision) or behind the hairline in the scalp (coronal incision). She determines incision placement based on the contours of the patient’s forehead. For some patients, small incisions at or within the hairline are made for the endoscopic brow lift approach.[1]

With the incisions made, Dr. Short gently lifts the forehead skin and removes the excess. Using an endoscope, she can modify the corrugator muscles (the cause of frown lines) and elevate the eyebrows as needed.

As the procedure concludes, Dr. Short re-drapes the remaining skin along the natural contours of the head and face. All sutures and clips will be removed within ten days. You will soon regain the ability to perform your full range of facial expressions during your safe and speedy recovery.

AFTERCARE

Allow yourself two to three days of downtime while you recuperate. You can return to light activity in seven to ten days. Wait at least a month before engaging in anything that will elevate your heart rate. You should follow Dr. Short’s personalized instructions to avoid complications and achieve the best look.

Radiant Results

Brow lift’s transformative results are subtle yet dramatic. The surgery corrects forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet wrinkles. Many celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Kylie Jenner, Robert Downey, Jr. and Cameron Diaz all may have quietly gotten a brow lift to give their features a boost for photographs. Younger patients may wish to improve a congenital asymmetry or to give themselves a sleek new image. Ariana Grande’s sultry “come hither” look may have been acquired through surgery. Aging beauties like Catherine Zeta-Jones have work done on their forehead so they can continue to project their sparkling eyes and lust for life.

Brow Lift’s Beaming Benefits

  • A refreshed, youthful appearance at the upper portion of the face
  • A rested appearance at the eyes
  • Smooths forehead creases
  • Lifts sagging skin

A brow lift may be enough to improve hanging skin above the eyelids. But if sagging continues, Dr. Short may recommend a complementary procedure such as blepharoplasty. Your complementary procedure may be performed at the same time as your brow lift.

Brow Lift vs. Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Brow lift and Eyelid Surgery are both surgical procedures to refresh the upper part of the face, particularly around the eyes. Also known as blepharoplasty, an eyelid lift specifically focuses on correcting droopy eyes, a condition known as ptosis. In blepharoplasty, Dr. Short cuts along the crease of each eyelid. She excises extra fat, skin and sometimes muscle before closing the incision.[2]

Brow lift, by contrast, is exclusively concerned with the area just above the eyes. Even so, the procedure shares a lot in common with blepharoplasty. The forehead lift can correct sagging skin that may impair vision and alter one’s appearance.

The eyes and brow are so integral to our emotive patterns. Volumes of information are communicated with eye contact. Both brow lift and eyelid surgery shape the same important area of the face so that your outer appearance can come into greater harmony with the beautiful person inside you.

As complementary procedures, the brow lift and eyelid lift operations are often performed together for comprehensive enhancement of the area around the eyes.

FAQs

HOW LONG DOES A BROW LIFT LAST?

The benefits of your brow lift will last 10 to 12 years. The procedure rejuvenates the upper portions of your face, smoothing forehead wrinkles and making you appear bright-eyed and refreshed. A forehead lift produces dramatic outcomes. It takes years off your appearance and enhances your expressiveness. But a brow lift surgery cannot stop the aging process. Your skin will continue to increase in laxity as you get older. To maintain the integrity of your results, you might consider non-surgical skin-tightening medical spa procedures.

WHAT AGE SHOULD YOU GET A BROW LIFT?

Our most common brow lift patients are over 40 years old. This is when the signs of aging may be severe enough for involved cosmetic procedures to do the most good. Some younger patients have a congenital condition that they would like to see corrected. They may have naturally saggy forehead skin that the years will only make worse. Other patients have an asymmetrical browline. They seek aesthetic surgery to reconstruct the contours of their face. A balanced, supple and emotive face is a hallmark of classic beauty.
