An Overview of the Consultation with Dr. Kimberly Short

The Consultation: The first step in deciding if you are a good candidate for the proposed treatment to achieve the results you desire and for you to have a general knowledge base for recovery period, risks of the procedure, limitations, and cost of the procedure for planning purposes.

Prior to your first visit to the office, you will fill out two forms (patient demographics and past medical history forms) and bring them with you on the day of your consultation. We need this basic information for our administrative records. Our office will contact you a few days prior to your scheduled consultation to confirm the date and time of your appointment. Because we have a waiting list for consultations with Dr. Kimberly Short, we ask that you call or email our office to confirm your appointment within forty-eight hours of receiving the confirmation call. If we do not hear from you within this forty-eight-hour time frame, we will cancel your appointment to allow another patient to meet with Dr. Kimberly Short.

Initially, you will view a DVD presentation to give you a good overview of the procedure of interest and what criteria make you a good candidate for one recommendation over an alternative and specific examples of patients whom serve as teaching examples. You will then meet with a member of our clinical staff; she will review your health history and be available to answer any general questions. The clinical staff member will review information on the procedure of interest and review general recommendations of recovery, restrictions after surgery, review before and after pictures illustrating post-operative results and incision placement.

Dr. Kimberly Short will then be introduced to you and also review your goals for surgery and the desired appearance you are requesting and any limitations you may have in regards to your past medical history, previous surgeries, recovery period restrictions with lifting at your place of employment or children, etc. Dr. Kimberly Short will perform a detailed examination and evaluate your anatomy to determine if the desired improvement you would like after surgery is realistic and what you can expect with your anatomy.

Based on her evaluation, Dr. Short will recommend a procedure(s) she feels will best meet your expectations and a recommendation that is customized to you. She will also review basic information with respect to the recovery time and post-operative care involved with the procedure(s). You will have the opportunity to review before and after picture books for various procedures. If you are interested in a facial procedure, the imager may be used to help you understand what results are possible for you.

After Dr. Short’s evaluation and discussion of recommendations, you will then meet with our Patient Coordinator who will discuss the fees associated with the recommended procedures. The Patient Coordinator will also be able to answer any questions regarding your payment options. If you are still in the information-gathering phase, she will try to answer any remaining questions. If you have a specific date in mind for your surgery, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.

Dr. Kimberly Short typically operates on Tuesdays and Fridays, with a few exceptions. Due to her schedule certain limitations in scheduling your surgery may exist. If you are considering surgery around a holiday, it would be in your best interest to schedule a generous time in advance. Should you feel another consultation is necessary to gather more information from Dr. Kimberly Short and/or a clinical staff member, an additional complimentary consultation may be scheduled. When you decide to move forward with surgery, a preoperative visit will be scheduled no less than two weeks prior to surgery. You will receive preoperative and postoperative instructions as well as your prescriptions at this visit. Bringing your caregiver to the preoperative visit is a great idea allowing them to be prepared as well.

Dr. Kimberly Short believes in healthy, consistent, skin care. If you have questions about dry, oily skin, acne, post-menopausal skin changes, or just desire to meet with one of our licensed aestheticians to discuss your skin care needs, one of them can talk with you during your consultation.
