Qwo is a simple injection that diminishes the sight and severity of cellulite around the buttocks. Cellulite, often noted for its “orange peel” texture under the skin, affects approximately 85% of women over the age of 20.[1] To treat this common condition, scientists and researchers have struggled to provide a reasonable solution that offers real, long-lasting results. However, when the FDA approved Qwo in 2020, the cosmetic industry found just the solution they were after. With its simple application followed by smooth, even skin, Qwo has quickly established itself as the answer to troublesome cellulite. Because of this, The Gillian Institute is proud to offer this wonderful treatment to our Indianapolis clientele.

If you have areas of cellulite around your buttocks, please don’t hesitate to schedule a personal consultation to see how Qwo can smoothen your skin’s appearance. If you would like to speak with our front desk directly, please call us at either:

About Cellulite

While a small percentage of men experience it, researchers have largely agreed since 1978 that cellulite is a sex-related condition dominant in post-pubertal women.[2] Though researchers don’t know the exact causes of cellulite, many speculate that estrogen plays a significant role in its appearance since many women see an increase in cellulite during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause.[1] Cellulite is commonly found on the thighs, upper knees, buttocks, and sometimes the abdomen. While diet and exercise assist in losing fat around other areas of your body, cellulite is different – it doesn’t respond to diet and exercise. That’s because cellulite is a structural problem in subcutaneous tissue rather than an overabundance of fat cells. Under the skin, women’s fibrous septa – the thick bands that connect the skin to the muscle – are vertical as where men’s are horizontal. With its vertical orientation, the fibrous septa compress the underlying fat between the skin and muscle, causing the fat to create an “orange-peel” appearance under the skin.[3]

Science / Benefits Behind Qwo

Qwo is made up of collagenases clostridium histolyticum-aaes (CCH), a naturally occurring enzyme that, when injected into localized cellulite, releases the tension of the thick fibrous septa bands. Over time, the enzyme breaks down the fibers tethering the skin to the muscle, allowing the underlying fat to redistribute evenly under the skin. As this process occurs, the sight of cellulite diminishes and the skin around the buttocks appears smooth and balanced. A 2021 study following 843 Qwo patients found that this simple injection significantly improved cellulite with little to no adverse side effects.[4]

Many of our clients love Qwo because it:

  • No recovery or downtime needed
  • Simple injection
  • Long-lasting results
  • Smoother, even contoured buttocks
  • No incisions required
  • Quick treatment

Candidates

For those interested in Qwo, it is important to note the two degrees of cellulite and the simple at-home test you can perform to gauge your condition. First, there is incipient cellulite: cellulite that is hardly noticeable to the naked eye and only becomes apparent when the area is pinched. When you pinch this area, the skin will appear rippled and padded. Next, there is full-blown cellulite: visible cellulite without needing a pinch test. It is evident to the naked eye as uneven dimples in the buttocks.[5]

If you are unhappy with cellulite around your buttocks, Qwo may be the perfect treatment for you! If you would like to learn more about this or one of our other services, please schedule a personal consultation with us today!

Personal Consultation

The Gillian Institute is proudly led by Dr. Kimberly Short and Dr. Robert Lewis. Born and raised in Evansville, Indiana, Dr. Short attended the Indiana University School of Medicine and subsequently trained in general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Over the course of her career, Dr. Short has become a leading expert in the field of cosmetic surgery, most notably in breast, body, and facial procedures. Having received his medical degree at the University of Illinois, College of Medicine at Peoria, Dr. Lewis is now a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with over 17 years of surgical and patient care experience. Together, Dr. Short and Dr. Lewis provide their Indianapolis clientele with wonderful aesthetic results. We will begin your consultation with a brief new patient interview and a physical examination. Then, we will examine the cellulite around your buttocks. To achieve your ideal behind aesthetic, we might also recommend other treatments like CoolSculpting to target fat cells around your buttocks. Like Qwo, CoolSculpting is a simple, non-surgical treatment that requires little to no downtime. Ask one of our nurses about adding CoolSculpting to your personalized treatment plan.

Preparation

To best prepare for your Qwo session, it is important to avoid any blood-thinning medication, supplement, or prescription as these can aggravate bruising around the injection site. This can include aspirin, NSAIDs, ibuprofen, Aleve, and supplements like herbal medicines and fish oil. Check with our friendly staff to determine what is recommended and not recommended before your Qwo session.

Procedure

Our patients love Qwo because the procedures are quick and easy – many elect to have them done over a lunch break. Before your treatment, we will review the areas around your buttocks we agreed to treat. Then, we will have you lay relaxed on your stomach. Before injecting the Qwo solution, we will disinfect the areas. Then, we will inject Qwo directly into the cellulite dimple. After we have completed all of the necessary injections, you will relax for a couple of minutes as Qwo begins to take effect under your skin. Finally, you will be able to leave our care and return to your daily activities.

Recovery

After your Qwo procedure, it is normal to experience some bruising and soreness around the treated areas. This will only last for a couple of days before subsiding. Many patients need multiple sessions to achieve their desired results, so we will space out your Qwo session a couple of weeks apart. Typically, we recommend three Qwo treatments, three weeks apart to see your ideal results.

Results

After your final Qwo session, you will be able to see smoother, tighter skin around your buttocks. The fibrous septa bands have loosened and the underlying fat has evenly distributed, resulting in cellulite-free results. Now, you don’t have to worry about the appearance of your cellulite every time you slip into a bikini! With Qwo, you can feel confident, smooth, and sexy.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

After experiencing the level of quality our team is committed to, and enjoying your beautiful final results, you may be ready to explore the other services we offer. Qwo patients are also often interested in boosting the appearance of their butt in other ways. For this, we recommend a Brazilian butt lift. Known commonly as a BBL, this procedure uses liposuction to extract unwanted fat cells from different areas of your body. These fat cells are rinsed, purified, and readied to be relocated into your buttocks. Unlike previous butt augmentation procedures, a BBL uses your own organic tissue to create natural, genuine results.

Cost

The cost of your Qwo treatment will vary depending on the number of injections and sessions your treatment plant requires. We will determine the price of your personalized plan during your consultation. If you would like to learn more about our pricing, please visit our pricing page or give us a call directly.

FAQs

WHAT IS QWO?

Approved by the FDA in 2020 to treat cellulite around the buttocks, Qwo is made of an enzyme called collagenases clostridium histolyticum-aaes. This naturally occurring enzyme breaks down the fibrous septa causing cellulite and helps free fat cells to redistribute evenly around the buttocks, thus erasing the signs of cellulite.
