About Adipose Tissue
While it may seem counterintuitive, a healthy amount of fatty tissue in your body serves a beneficial purpose. Healthy adipose tissue (fat) harbors energy as triglycerides that provide fuel for the body.[1] While fat loss is easier in our youth, as we age, losing troublesome fat deposits can be tough. Though diet plans and exercise regimens advertise quick, easy fat loss, the reality is not so straightforward. There are, in fact, some fatty tissue that is extremely resilient to diet and exercise. This fat is called subcutaneous fat. Used by the body as an insulator for heat loss, a barrier against dermal infection, and a protective cushion against external stressors, subcutaneous fat is the layer of fat just between the skin and the muscles or bone.[2] Because the body sees this fat as the last line of defense, subcutaneous fat will remain even when the body is deprived of adequate nutrition. So, diet and exercise alone cannot shed this type of fat.

Fat Reduction Solutions in Indianapolis
While a healthy active diet and lifestyle are necessary for living a long and happy life, you might be discouraged when you don’t see the results you want from all of your hard work. That’s where the Gillian Institute’s minimally and non-invasive fat reduction treatments come in. By focusing on the unwanted troublesome fat deposits compromising your physique, we can help you better achieve your ideal appearance without all the grueling effort of another fruitless diet and exercise program. At the Gillian Institute, we give you the freedom to choose which treatment is best for you, your lifestyle, and your schedule.
The first step on this journey is to learn more about what treatments we offer and how they might fit into your health and fitness journey. The second step is to schedule a personal consultation at one of our two offices. During your consultation, we will give you a more comprehensive outline of each of our services as well as determine which one is perfect for you and your goals. Our minimally and non-invasive fat reduction treatments include:
CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting is a non-invasive body contouring procedure that breaks down fatty tissue with sub-zero temperatures in a process known as cryolipolysis. This process lowers the temperature of the fat tissue to freezing levels where the cells inside the tissue experience apoptosis (cell death). Over time, the cells dislodge from the connective tissue and flush out of the body through its natural processes, leaving behind a more contoured, sculpted appearance to the target area(s). During a CoolSculpting session, the only tissue altered is the fat tissue.[3] Other cells aren’t as susceptible to the below-freezing temperatures. CoolSculpting is ideal for many patients because it offers safe, effective results with a quick procedure time. Many of our patients love CoolSculpting because it can be performed as a “lunch-break treatment.” Depending on the number of areas treated during your session, you can expect to be in and out of our care in just under an hour. What also makes some of our patients routinely choose CoolSculpting is that there is no downtime necessary. No need to worry about taking time off work or your busy schedule to recover. With CoolSculpting, your body is already naturally eliminating fat as soon as your session is complete. You can expect to see the full, rejuvenated results in only a matter of weeks!
Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy involves multiple intradermal and subcutaneous injections with a solution that breaks down unwanted, localized areas of fat – most popular for troublesome cellulite. During your mesotherapy session, we will carefully insert a syringe into your fat deposit(s) and inject the fat-dissolving solution. This solution will work its way into the fatty tissue where the cells experience “injection lipolysis”.[4] Once the cells have experienced apoptosis, the body then sheds them from the target area(s), leaving behind a better contoured, slimmer appearance. Many of the patients at The Gillian Institute love mesotherapy because the treatment is so simple yet effective on cellulite around their buttocks and thighs. There’s no need to worry about lengthy treatment or recovery times. With just a couple of injections, you can be in and out of our care in no time at all!
Liposuction
An instant way to lose unwanted fat cells is through liposuction. Liposuction has been a popular body contouring procedure for decades because of the continuing advances in liposculpture techniques and technologies. At The Gillian Institute, we use a combined approach of tumescent fluid and ultrasound-assisted liposuction. We begin with a very small incision around the target area. Then, we inject the tumescent fluid into the target tissue. This fluid contracts the blood vessels which decreases blood loss, bruising, and improves pain control.[5] Next, we use ultrasound technology to release the fatty tissue from its mooring. The waves of ultrasound dislodge the fat from its connective tissue, which increases the amount of fat we can extract in the final step. Finally, we run a suction-assisted cannula through the target area(s) and “suck” up all the released fat cells. Once we have extracted the appropriate amount of fatty tissue, we will carefully suture the incision closed. After you have fully healed and the swelling has subsided, you can enjoy a slimmer, tighter appearance.
Our past liposuction patients say they love this procedure because it provides instant results, whereas other treatments may take a couple of weeks to months for results to become noticeable. Because it does include more downtime than other treatments, liposuction is perfect for those who can take one to two weeks off in exchange for instant results.
Kybella
To resolve the appearance of a “double-chin”, we proudly offer Kybella. Kybella is a simple subcutaneous injection into the submental (chin) tissue. The active ingredient in Kybella is sodium deoxycholate, a chemical that can dissolve fat and tighten the tissue.[6] A few days after your Kybella treatment you should begin to notice your chin is becoming better contoured and defined. Gradually, the tissue around your chin will tighten and you will finally see your profile without a stubborn double-chin. Our patients love Kybella because it is a simple treatment that offers long-lasting results and reliable, effective results.
Renuvion
After your fat reduction treatment, you might see that there is loose, excess skin in the treated area(s). To remedy this lax skin tissue, we utilize the restorative skin tightening technology of Renuvion. Renuvion utilizes the power of cold plasma energy to tighten loose skin tissue. When radiofrequency waves energize with helium gas, cold plasma energy is created.[7] This cold plasma radiates thermal energy that, when applied subdermally, awakens aging fibroblast cells to release a cascade of restorative proteins like collagen and elastin. These new fibers supplement the older ones in your skin, refortifying and tightening the structure of your skin. After your Renuvion treatment, wrinkles and loose skin are gradually erased, leaving behind tighter, younger appearing skin.
